Ino Yang Popper is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer and a lecturer for the Advanced Cinematography program at California State University, Northridge. Ino is a graduate of the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory. Her 35mm film BORDER, shot during AFI, was selected into the Telluride Film Festival. Ino holds a BA in Directing & Editing from Beijing Film Academy and an MFA in Directing & Screenwriting from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. She had previously worked as an editor for 12 years in China.
Ino was selected into Film Independent’s Project Involve program as a cinematography fellow, leading to her work on THE MASON RING, which won Best of the Best Award at the HBOMax competition of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, and the acclaimed animated film 7LBS 8OZ, honored with the Grand Jury Award at the Florida Film Festival and featured at Cannes' Emerging Filmmaker Showcase.
As a recipient of the prestigious Panavision Grant and Fellowship, and an Associate of the Society of Camera Operators (SOC), Ino was recently selected as a fellow of the 2025-2026 ReFrame Rise program founded by WIF (Women in Film) and The Sundance Institute, supported by Netflix.
With over two decades of experience in the film industry across China and the U.S., Ino has integrated her expertise in directing, editing, and screenwriting to advance the craft of cinematography, bringing a unique voice to visual storytelling. Her artistry continues to shine in other projects including DEBORAH (starring Sophia Bush and Deborah Ann Woll), CHINDIA (Best Comedy Feature at the Silicon Valley Asian Pacific Film Festival), and many others available on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Tubi.
